History of the Home

In the post revolutionary period, a very overwhelming and urgent problem was the problem of abandoned children, who were huddled in state orphanages in unimaginable conditions.

After the revolution of 1989, when an opening to the West was made and not only, the believers in Romania entered in connection with various humanitarian organizations, churches, missionaries, good people. With these dialogues, the perspective of helping, improving this segment, the orphans was born.

Thus in 1992 came in Romania groups such as Ost-West Express from Switzerland, led by Bert Adam Posthumus, but also from America, Pastor Robert Frazier, interested in making more happy the children in orphanages in Romania. In this context, the wish arises that in Neamt area a home for children should be opened. The initiative belongs to the partors Mihai Gavril,  Nelu Crasmariu and Florin Livada.

Adam Bert Posthumus in Switzerland shows hilmself open to help with finding resources for this project. To this purpose, Christian Mission Bethesda Maranatha is founded in 1993, who will determine first collaboration with the Group Ost-West Express from Switzerland. They searched and found a space in Dobreni village, Neamt County,  made freely available for 10 years by City Hall. Immediately, the Swiss group is supported with money and logistics by  Ostkurier Diakonia  Internationale Hilfe organization in Switzerland, led by President Hans-Rudolf Hintermann.

The first private children's home named "The Shelter" is opened, which then will be called Hope House, financed by Ostkurier Diaconia Internationale Hilfe from Switzerland. The activity started with a family of seven children, remained orphan because his father killed his wife. This crime was accomplished  in front of the children, and they were threatened with death in case they  say somethingto the authorities. Finally, the locals noticed one child every night going to a certain place in the outskirts of the village, thus exposing the woman's body and his father entering the prison.

The activity started with 7 children, but then it was completely up to 30 children. The inauguration of this particular Christian home will take place in October 1997 in the presence of Swiss Ambassador Jean-Claude Joseph, President of the County Council Raul Constantin Bobeanu, the prefect Dan Marian Lospa, other parliamentarians, and Ostkurier President, Hans Rodolf Hintermann.

Since 1999 the question of moving into a new home arose, which begins to be built at another location, also in Dobreni village. In this building there have contributed more people and organizations such as J.O.Y. in England by Mrs. Cati Tedd, Diakonia Hilfe in Germany by Mr. Helmut Glock, Rich Ministries of America by spouses Greg and Anne Heisey, and Wer in England by Kevin Hagen, Elvira Burnaz, Alex Haston.

A special role had also the US citizen, Ray Daimon and therefore the house is called  Casa Ray.

In August 2000, the new location with the name of Casa Ray opens. The building is is arranged in stages depending on funds and thus they made a new building which is currently housing 23 children. Currently the house has a small  animals farm to produce meat, milk, eggs, a vegetable garden, a piece of land for forage and other crops and a small sports field.

Financial support is provided from three main sources monthly, so we divided the children into 3 groups with 7-8 children in the group. A  group is further funded by Ostkurier in Switzerland, important being the contribution made by Hans Rudolf Hintermann, another group is supported by Diakonia in Germany by  the contribution of Helmut Glock and a group funded from America, an important contribution Greg and Anne Heisey and Mike and Mary Heisey. Besides these three main sources, we also have monthly financial help from Kinder- und Behindertenhilfe Rumänien eV. Brilon represented by Andreas, Heinrich and Dan Rotaru from Germany, also Kongr. d. Franziskanerin represented by Hans Alt from Germany and other high-heart individuals.

Financial support being to the limit, the functioning of this home is also possible with the help of churches, individuals, companies, etc. who occasionally visit us and help us with some food or money.

Locally, this Home is led by Gavril Mihai and Tatiana with their children. Children are taken, in some cases, from kindergarten and take them up to college. Two of our children are now in college: a girl at "Al.I.Cuza" Faculty of letters in Iasi and another girl is at health post-high school/Nursing College, six are high school students, they commute from Piatra Neamt and the rest are in the primary school in the village.

Compared to official politics, where protect ends at the age of 18 - as at this age you are ready to beginn life - the help at RAY House continues. Typically, we protect their families and homes of those who left, if possible. We try to maintain the family atmosphere, the same in which they grew up. For example, we have a girl in America, who was adopted by a family, and married this summer. Another girl who was raised by us, became our girl again, marrying one of our boys. Another boy met a faithful girl, they have started a family, have three children and settled in Sibiu. Another girl works at County hospital in Iasi, after finishing Nursing College, and such examples may continue.

Children's life story began just not pleasant. They witnessed violent crimes, separations, deaths. La Casa Ray they found something else: instead of violence, comfort, instead of murder, love, instead of breakups unity and instead of deaths, life in abundance!

In August 2015 we celebrate 20 years since the founding of the home. This was only possible with the help of God who put this work on the heart of his servants. In the 20 years children have learned to serve God, to be present every Sunday in a church and especially to bring songs of praise to God.
